Supported Internships are for young people aged 16 — 24 with special educational needs or disabilities, who want to get a job and need extra support to do this. To be eligible you need a Statement of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), a Learning Difficulty Assessment, or an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
What will it look like?
Dorset Pathways work with local employers and supported employment services. You will be involved in planning your study programme and have a tutor and expert job coach to work with you and the employer during the internship.
Most of the learning is done in the workplace for 4 days a week. Your employer gives you work experience, trains you to do a job role and teaches you skills needed for work. Then you will attend Dorset Pathways for 1 day of learning. Here you will learn the theoretical skills and knowledge needed, that will complement the practical learning in your work placement.
Supported Internships are unpaid and designed to run between 6 and 12 months. We offer a roll on roll off study program with the opportunity to study towards a qualification that is personalised to your needs. Supported Internships are all about working towards getting a paid job at the end of the programme.
